Tae-won Chey serves as the Chairman of SK Inc., overseeing the more than 175 companies within the SK brand, spanning the energy, chemicals, telecommunications, semiconductor, biopharmaceuticals, and trading services industries.
For nearly 30 years, Chairman Chey has held a number of leadership positions across SK’s various operating companies.
A recognized and vocal proponent of corporate social value creation, Chairman Chey has championed this topic at esteemed conferences such as the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. There, he shared SK’s commitment to providing a measurable impact for all stakeholders, including shareholders, customers, employees, suppliers, communities, and governments. Chairman Chey formalized these efforts when SK announced its Double Bottom Line (DBL) initiative in 2018, with a company pledge to monitor and report SK’s social value — placing it at the core of its business model.
Chairman Chey has received numerous special distinctions throughout his career, including “Global Leaders for Tomorrow,” World Economic Forum (1999); Co-Chair, East Asia Economic Summit 2002 in Malaysia, World Economic Forum (2002); Member, Brookings International Advisory Council (IAC) (2010); Working Group Convener, G20 Business Summit (2010); and two-time President of the Korea Handball Federation (2008, 2016), as well as many other key acknowledgements.
Chairman Chey holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Korea University, as well as a PhD in economics from the University of Chicago.
