2019 Icheon Sub Forums

2019 Icheon Sub Forums were held recently with prominent world-class scholars, global business experts and SK People gathering together to have a series of discussions. It started with the Design Forum in March followed by June forums including DT Forum (on the 20th), AI Forum (on the 21st) and Energy Solution Forum (on the 27th) and the Design Forum held on July 2nd. The 2019 Icheon Sub Forums are an occasion where participants actively engage in discussions on diverse fields including industry, technology, economy, and social matters to explore future development directions, adequate alternatives and insightful implications for SK’s sustainable growth. The Main Forum will be held from August 19th to 22nd.

June 20 | SK E&C, the First in Korea to Enter the PDH Plant Market in Belgium

SK E&C concluded a FEED (Front End Engineering Design) contract with INEOS, a global chemical company, to build a PDH (Propane Dehydrogenation) plant in the Antwerp Petrochemical Complex. PDH is a process of producing propylene by eliminating hydrogen from propane gas. This project involves carrying out the FEED of a PDH Plant with an annual processing of 750,000 tons. SK E&C will be working on the FEED project for 12 months. Being selected as the preferred bidder has put SK E&C in a favorable position to win a contract for the EPC mega project. On the other hand, SK advanced, a subsidiary of SK gas, is also participating in this project which plans to pass on its PDH plant operational know-how to INEOS under a separate contract.

June 26 | SK Hynix, the First in the World to Mass-produce '128-layer 4D NAND.'

On June 26th, SK Hynix started mass production of the 128-layer 1Tbit TLC (Triple level Cell) 4D NAND flash, the first of its kind to be developed and produced in the world. It is a success SK Hynix celebrates in eight months since the development of 96-layer 4D NAND last October. The recently rolled-out 128-layer NAND developed by SK Hynix is a 1Tbit product with the largest number of stacks in the industry. It has more than 360 billion NAND cells that store 3 bits per cell. In the meanwhile, SK Hynix is developing the next generation 176-layer 4D NAND product with the same platform as the 128-layer 4D NAND to further bolster its already strong NAND business competitiveness with its technological advantage.

July 8 | New Sleep Disorder Drug from SK Biopharmaceuticals Launched in the US

Jazz Pharmaceuticals (hereinafter “Jazz”), a partner company of SK Biopharmaceuticals, will launch the innovative new drug Solriamfetol (trade name: Sunosi™) in the US market on July 8th which was approved by the FDA in March. The global launch of an innovative new drug developed by a Korean company and approved by the FDA in the field of central nervous system is the first case in history. The new sleep disorder drug Solriamfetol is the fruit of a project which represents 26 years of SK’s pharmaceutical development history; this is the first CNS drug to be launched in the global market, making it a hard-earned success.

July 3 | Sinopec-SK Petrochemical, Signboard Hanging Ceremony for Wuhan Refinery Acquisition

A signboard hanging ceremony was held by Sinopec-SK Petrochemical Co., Ltd, (中韓石化), a joint venture between SK Global Chemical and SINOPEC, on July 3rd to celebrate the takeover of Wuhan Refinery located in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. Participants to the ceremony included SK Global Chemical CEO Na Kyung-soo, SINOPEC SenLei Dian-wu (雷典武), and Sinopec-SK Petrochemical General Manager Guan Ze-min who committed themselves to strong cooperation to maximize the synergy between Sinopec-SK Petrochemical and Wuhan Refinery. With the acquisition of Wuhan Refinery, the oil company, Sinopec-SK Petrochemical is secured with a stable supply and demand of major petrochemical materials such as naphtha and is expected to strengthen its position in the Chinese market.
