Global leaders in fast-charging equipment and electrical systems to share information and insights on EV infrastructure
SEOUL, South Korea – SK Signet Inc., a top global manufacturer of EV charging solutions for both consumer and commercial vehicles, and HUBER+SUHNER AG, a global leader in electrical and optical connectivity solutions, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to share expertise and knowledge to help accelerate global development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
SK Signet and Huber+Suhner MOU signing featuring representatives from both companies including: Urs Ryffel, Huber + Suhner CEO; Francisco Fraga, Huber + Suhner, Senior VP Sales Industrials; Jung Ho Shin, SK Signet CEO; and Seung June Oh, SK Signet America president
“Car-buyers are showing a strong interest in EVs to reduce their impact on the environment and their dependence on gas, but they don’t want to give up the convenience of a quick fill-up at their local service station,” said SK Signet CEO Jung Ho Shin. “By sharing knowledge and expertise, SK Signet and HUBER+SUHNER hope to gain new insights that help us each advance our EV charging technology and provide consumers faster ways to recharge their vehicles.”
The MOU is intended to spur innovations in EV charging infrastructure to support the growth of EVs. According to the IEA’s Global Vehicle Outlook 2022,
the number of publicly available EV charging stations reached 1.8
million units in 2021, a 37% increase from the year before. The growth,
however, wasn’t fast enough to keep pace with EV sales. By 2030, this
number will need to increase twelve-fold to meet publicly stated goals
for electrification, the report says.
SK Signet,
formerly Signet EV, was acquired last year by SK Inc., the strategic
investment arm of South Korea’s SK Group. SK Signet has sold more than
20,000 EV charging stations worldwide and is a market leader in fast and
ultra-fast charging technology.
“We are very proud of our ongoing collaboration with SK Signet to
advance safe, high performance and reliable charging solutions for the
fast-growing EV market,” said Francisco Fraga, SVP Sales – Industrials
for HUBER+SUHNER. “SK Signet was one of our first partners for Electrify
America and we are confident that with our combined expertise and
exceptional quality standards, we will continue to innovate the industry
well into the future.”
HUBER+SUHNER boasts the largest number of installed cooled,
high-power charging (HPC) systems for EV charging stations in the world.
