Polly Wang, Key Account Manager at SK hynix
Can you tell us a bit about your path to SK? What brought you to your current role?
I worked for a server company before joining SK about 10 years ago, and I was excited to start a new career path in the memory industry. Fortunately, all my managers have been very supportive and encouraging, and mentored my career path. I was assigned to manage the Apple NAND business, and a few years later, I asked my manager if I could expand to the Apple DRAM business. My leader was very receptive to my new career goal. With the opportunities to support NAND and DRAM, I established a holistic understanding of Apple’s business and its future direction.
In addition to great leadership, I was also fortunate to work with amazing colleagues in the USA and HQ offices on the operation and technical sides. The most important thing I learned is, “teamwork is the key to success.”
What has been your proudest achievement at SK?
In the last several years, the semiconductor business has been especially competitive and turbulent. No matter what challenges came my way, I never sat back and let them faze me – I would take self-initiative and tackle the issues head on, while working with clients and internal teams to reconcile the differences. I am proud to say my teammates and clients can count on me. By this March, I will be hitting my 10-year anniversary at SK.
What inspires you about the work you do at SK?
Semiconductor is the heart of all modern technologies. As an industry leader in memory businesses, SK provides me a great opportunity to work on future technologies and market leaders. Whenever I think my work today could be incorporated in customers’ revolutionary products, I am always excited and inspired.
What’s one piece of career advice that has served you well in your current role?
Don’t overlook any tiny or insignificant pieces at work, because they tend to complete a great piece of art eventually.
