As AI becomes a more significant part of our daily lives, so does its need to process massive amounts of data to train leading models. Doing that requires behind-the-scenes technologies that help AI models deliver transformative solutions, improving everything from providing sharper health diagnoses to generating greater business efficiencies.

SK Group’s SK hynix has built a strong reputation for manufacturing these unseen technologies. One of its standout products is high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, which are key to modern AI. These chips can process an incredible amount of data—think 230 full-HD movies per second. While these chips are out of sight, their impact on AI's capabilities is vast.

As well as resilient solutions able to process reams of data, SK hynix is also focused on making these technologies more efficient by having them use as little energy as possible. This is particularly important as AI faces one of its biggest challenges: massive energy consumption. To put it into perspective, a single query on a leading AI-powered chatbot requires nearly 10 times the electricity of a simple Google search. And as AI continues to grow and spread across more aspects of our lives, its energy needs are expected to surge. Some projections even suggest that AI data centers could see a 160% increase in power demand by 2030. To help make AI more energy efficient, SK hynix aims to double the energy efficiency of its HBM products by 2026.
